Is Low Back Pain overtreated?
Evidence shows that early physical therapy has been shown to be cost effective at treating low back pain, ultimately saving patients out of pocket expenses and allowing them to avoid narcotics and invasive procedures that may be unnecessary. A 2015 study showed that individuals who had advanced imaging before physical therapy were more likely to undergo surgery, receive injections or visit the hospital emergency room. Those individuals also spent an average of $4,000 more on their care.
Substantially more literature and research support what Physical Therapists have been saying for years — “Get to us Early and Get Moving!”
