Physical Therapy for Ankle Pain & Injuries
There are many different causes of ankle pain including fractures, sprains, tendinitis, and arthritis. Many ankle injuries are caused by traumatic events, such as twisting the ankle on uneven ground or landing on an opponent’s ankle during a game. Other injuries result from overuse, improper or worn out footwear, and age-related changes. Symptoms may include pain with certain ankle motions, swelling, and tenderness.
Your physical therapist will use manual therapy, modalities, and exercise to address your symptoms, stretch tight muscles, and strengthen weak muscles to prevent reoccurrence of your condition. Through a customized program you will be educated on body mechanics and exercises that specifically address your impairments. You can expect to be seen on average 2-3x/week for 1-2 months depending on the severity of your symptoms.
